9:00am—11:00AM (5 Segments 2 hours each 10 CEU’s)


Upon completion of this seminar participants will be equipped with information about the mindset of the abuser, the response of the victim because of the abuse, and the cycle that they are entangled in. The importance of confidentiality when talking with victims will also be stressed. In addition, participants will be able to give examples of the impact of the abuse and the importance of support. Participants will identify what questions to ask to counsel with wisdom and compassion.

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • To explain the dynamics of domestic abuse, the types of abuse, and the cycle of abuse.
  • To recognize the characteristics and mindset of an abuser.
  • To identify the profile of a victim, and explain the reasons why she stays, and assess the impact the abuse has on the victim.
  • To give examples of the impact of abuse on children and teenagers.
  • To discuss the importance of empathy and support.
  • To justify the importance of confidentiality.
  • To practice how to counsel wisely and what questions to ask.

SPEAKER:

Doreen Weiss, LPC

Doreen Weiss is a licensed professional counselor specializing in domestic violence and trauma resolution. In 2002, she founded Enduring Hope Counseling. Doreen works as a domestic violence educator and advocate. She seeks to bring awareness of the widespread existence of complex trauma, abuse, and domestic violence and their effects on victims, their children, families and communities.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

The Pittsburgh Baptist Church is located at 3100 Pioneer Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15226. There is a parking lot if you are driving and the nearest bus stop is "West Liberty Ave Opp Pioneer Ave FS" located here. The building is accessible. If you have any questions or need more directions please call the church at (412) 341-1660.

What's the refund policy?

Full refunds are available up to two weeks before the start of the program. After that no refunds will be made.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, you don't need to print anything out. Please sign in when you arrive.

What if I can't make one of the days?

The cost includes all 5 sessions, and we can not discount any out of the cost. If you are earning CE units, you will only earn for what sessions you are present. Each session is worth 2 continuing education clock hours and the entire Seminar is worth 10 continuing education clock hours.
